How to prepare your own BIRRIA at home with our
Birria Kit
Ingredients You Need to Get Started
- 3 – 5 lbs of Beef Chuck Roast (you could also use goat for a more traditional birria! aka Birria de Chivo)
- ~2 cups of water per pound of meat
- ie: If you have 3 lbs of meat you’d use ~6 cups of water, 4 lbs of meat would be ~8 cups of water, etc… – you want to make sure the water covers the meat completely in whatever cooking vessel you’re using
- 1 Spice Key Birria Kit
- Toppings/garnishes of your choice – some popular ones are White Onion, Cilantro, Salsa, Limes, Oaxaca Cheese, Tortillas, even Ramen Noodles!
You can create a lot of fun and delicious dishes with your birria such as Quesabirria Tacos, Birria Ramen, Birria Nachos, Burritos, etc…
Instructions
Note that beef can be kept as a large piece, or cut into chunks, to fit into your cooking vessel.
Crock Pot
- Add your meat, water, and Spice Key Birria Kit to your crock pot.
- Set your crock pot for 5 – 6 hours on high, or 7 – 8 hours on low
Stove Top
- Add your meat, water, and Spice Key Birria Kit to your pot
- Loosely cover and cook on low for ~3 hours, or until the meat is tender and easy to shred
(The pot should be kept close to a simmer, not a rolling boil – this will ensure your meat does not become tough)
Instant Pot
- Add your meat, water, and Spice Key Birria Kit to your Instant Pot
- Pressure cook on high for 2 hours (you can either manual release, or slow release once your cook has completed)
Shred & Serve!
Take the meat out of the pot, shred it, and return it to the consume (broth)
Serve your Birria as a taco, birria ramen, burrito, in nachos, or even eat it as a Whole30/Paleo/Keto compliant stew with your favorite garnishes!
